BE & DO ATTITUDES by Pastor Paul Locke

The Beatitudes (Mtt 5:3-10) spoken by Jesus tells believers how to behave and think to be blessed and be a blessing.  Included in an impressive list are the poor in spirit, mourners, meek, seekers of righteousness, merciful, pure in heart, peacemakers, and those who are persecuted because of righteousness.  As an Evangelist I need to teach ways for the learner to be effective in the work of evangelism and must not confuse the above desired qualities of a Christian with ways that power must be exerted against the enemy.

The Bible gives many examples of mighty men and women who rose up against evil forces in non meek ways.  The classic slaughter of the Prophets of Baal by Elijah is my favourite alongside Jesus overturning the money changers’ tables.  Apostle Paul gives insight through the verses in Ephesians 6:10 where he says, “Finally be strong in the Lord and his mighty power.”  This says to me not to neglect the power that is available to us that works according to God’s will.  These verses of Paul include, “after you have done everything, stand.”

Jesus taught us to “Bless those who curse you” which brings immediate change to hearts.  The example of cursing the fig tree (Mtt 21:19) is an important lesson in spiritual warfare.  A tree is not like a human being but more like a corporation so this type of curse is a tool to discipline rogue corporations.  Many rogue corporations were bowled over like ninepins after I cursed them.  Be bold do not worry, as a curse without cause has no effect.  The world will know through the effects that Christians are not just pussy cats, but powerful instruments of God.

Remember that the demonic realm does not respond to kindness, but power.  What you tolerate you can not change so to give a demonised person a chance to change you must demonstrate power.  Saul met Elymas in Cyprus who opposed them and tried to turn the Proconsul from the faith.  Saul said “…Now the hand of the Lord is against you…” (Acts 13:11)  Because we are the hands and the feet of the Lord on this earth, we say, “I come against you in the name of Jesus” and then speak what action is to take place.  This display of power is a useful tool against the devil.

Binding and loosing (Mtt 16:19) in Jesus’ name is the most commonly used method to war in the heavenlies.  Binding of evil spirits prevents them being able to stop people from making decisions for Jesus.  Binding renders them ineffective, but remember in the unseen realm there are many demons who step in to fill the gap for the bound spirit.  This is the reason we need to loose the power and anointing of the Holy Spirit in the territory where we are operating.  We call upon ministering Angels to help us, so in all we are not helpless but mighty warriors, talking spirits, speaking for God on this earth.
