FIVEFOLD MINISTRIES by Pastor Paul Locke for loxland.com 5/11/2015
Descended into Hell was the first destination for Jesus after crucifixion and this was to do a number of things. The first was to take the keys from Satan to release the captives. (Rev 1:18) The second was to fulfil prophecy that he would rise on the third day. The third thing was to lead those captives in his train as he ascended to heaven. (Eph 4:8) Finally he gave gifts to men. These gifts are the gifts of the Holy Spirit empowering faithful believers to be able to fulfil the commands of Jesus
Commissioned by Jesus was for all believers to preach the Gospel and the gifts of the Holy Spirit were for this purpose. (1Cor 12:4-6) The Gifts of the Holy Spirit operate through Born Again believers and are a sign to others that your heart has been circumcised by God. (Rom 2:29) The difference between the Gifts and the Fivefold Ministries is that the Gifts are tools but the ministries are a calling to be an Apostle, Prophet, Evangelist, Pastor, and Teacher.
Hearing Jesus is promised (Jhn 10:4-5) and sometimes our busy lifestyle blocks out the still quiet voice of Jesus. We need teachers to encourage us to seek the voice of Jesus and I will try to persuade you to do this. I remember in morning devotions at Bible College reading from Oral Roberts book when I noticed all his conversations with God were in the first person so I decided to keep asking God for this privilege. (Mtt 7:7)
Jeremiah called by God and heard his voice that gave him the title Prophet. (Jer 1:4-5) Jesus said, “He who belongs to God hears what God says; the reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God.” (Jhn 8:47) To be a Prophet one had to hear from God, but False Prophets were found out and stoned. Prophecies can be fulfilled more than one time and often come to pass at some distant times and then called ‘midrash’.
Evangelist is the office that teaches others to evangelise. The highest calling is not in the fivefold but when a lost sheep is found all heaven rejoices. (Lk 15:4-7) Healing is just another miracle but the greatest is when someone repents through you. God would have it that none perish, but all come to repentance. (2Pt 3:9) The secret power of God over the enemy is in the Blood of Jesus.
