MUSIC by Pastor Paul Locke 30/06/2016
Food according to William Shakespeare the playwright is music when he wrote “If music be the food of love, play on, so that I may sicken of it.” This suggests that one can overdo input in a manner of gluttony for food, where it does more harm than good. Anointing of God accompanies music in worship when played by a Spirit filled person. (1Sam 16:13) The power of music to dispatch demons is evident in the deliverance of Saul from evil spirits. (1Sam 16:23)
Fixed form of worship crept into the Church during the middle ages and noted during the time of Pope Gregory the Great when the rote system was introduced to maintain order in Jerusalem services because of the huge crowds. The three hymn sandwich seems to come from that time and today musicians play and play in an attempt to persuade God to pour out an anointing on the service. How pathetic this is when Jesus said, “must worship in Spirit and Truth.” (Jhn 4:24)
Personal relationship with God through the Baptism of the Holy Spirit is what Jesus refers to when he spoke to the woman at the well. (Jhn 3:3-5) How can we be witnesses for Jesus without the Comforter and the power that comes with the Gift of the Holy Spirit? (Acts 1:8) God delights in a joyful heart of a believer and worship music and dancing is part of that human expression.
Power Plug taps into the Holy Spirit who operates the Spiritual Gifts for service. (1Cor 12:31) I often say that the gifts are all available and like tools hanging on an Electricians belt we use them according to the leading of the Holy Spirit. I asked God for an extra measure of faith unlike Solomon who asked for wisdom. Faith and Love are the two main attributes for power and I liken love to be the turbo charger (1Cor 13:2) and the gift of faith is God’s faith without measure.
Worship prayer and song is inspired by the Holy Spirit for use in emergency Spiritual War. (Eph 6:18) In street ministry I often break out in song when I feel the need for more help from God. The first Church began correctly when they worshipped daily, prayed, sang hymns and listened to the Apostles teaching. (Acts 2:42-47) How beautiful are the Psalms that reveal the heart of the writer and the personal attitude towards God who gave His only begotten son Jesus.
