SPIRIT AND TRUTH by Pastor Paul Locke for loxland.com 31/03/2016 and YouTube

Woman at Well in Samaria is met by Jesus who reveals he is the Christ. (Jhn 4:25-26)  That woman said she goes to worship God at Mount Gerizim a place, and then Jesus said, “Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth for they are the kind of worshipers that the Father seeks.  God is spirit and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth.” (Jhn 4:23-24)  God and His Kingdom are in us.

Church is not a place; but when two or more are gathered in the name of Jesus.  Jesus promises to be in the midst of them. Churches are people and not buildings so buildings are used as meeting places. (Acts 2:46)  Denominations originated when churches were named after locations because of language and cultural differences. (Rev 2 &3)  The Corinthian church had bad habits from old culture and others behaved badly, all needing to repent.

Worship in Spirit and Truth is revelation of a new way unknown to the Samaritan woman whose faith was through the Pentateuch. (Jhn 5:45-47)  Samaritans did not have the benefit of the Prophets after Moses and up until Jesus.  The coming of the Messiah was clearly revealed in the Prophets but now revealed to the woman by Christ himself.  After this the hearts of the Samaritans were open and later receive the Gospel when preached by Philip. (Acts 8:4-8)

Spirit of Truth is revealed by Jesus as another ‘Counselor’ the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in my name, He will teach you all things. (Jhn 14:17 & 26)       The Triune godhead is revealed to Born Again believers “On that day you will realize that I am in my Father and you are in me as I am in you.” (Jhn 14:20)  It is Jesus who baptises you to become Born Again when you ask.  He can do it sovereignly but most often uses a believer as his hands and feet.  Repentance comes first.

Unbelievers in the Gospel of Jesus Christ are given the opportunity to jump the fence to enter the sheepfold. (Jhn 10:16)  All people in the Old Testament are commanded to ‘circumcise your heart’ that can only be done by the Holy Spirit (Jer 4:4 & Rom 2:29) through repentance and asking.  Impartation by a Servant of God, a chosen vessel seals that person with the Holy Spirit who goes about his work to reveal who Jesus really is; so you can say, “Jesus Christ has come in the flesh.”
